Thao Hoang (they/them) is a Hanoi-based cinematographer working across fiction, documentary, and hybrid forms. Their practice is guided by a critical awareness of the camera as a powerful and inherently confrontational apparatus, one that demands care, ethical responsibility, and intention in how people in relation to their environments are represented. Thao's work is particularly attentive to marginalized communities, queer youth in Hanoi, and the sociocultural dynamics shaping contemporary local contexts.

Recent projects lensed by Thao have been selected and premiered at Kassel Dokfest, Visions du Réel, Hot Docs, Cambodia International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market Picks, Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, amongst others.
